Total War: Warhammer II is set in Games Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy fictional universe. The game takes place across five continents— Ulthuan, Naggaroth, The Southlands, Lustria and Nehekhara. The game will center around control of the Great Vortex in Ulthuan. Total War: Warhammer is a turn-based strategy real-time tactics video game developed by the Creative Assembly and published by Sega. The game features the gameplay of the Total War series with factions of Games Workshop's Warhammer series.

Total War: Warhammer III (TWW3, WH3) is the planned third and final game in the Total War: Warhammer series, confirmed by Creative Assembly to be in development.

It will be the sequel to Total War: Warhammer and Total War: Warhammer II.

As of December 2020, the game has not yet been released, and no release date has been announced.

Development progress[edit | edit source]

In June 2018, a blog post by Creative Assembly indicated that WH3 was in pre-production.^[1]

In March 2019, another blog post indicated that motion-capture was being done for the game.^[2]

In September 2019, it was stated in another blog that the game is 'deep into production'.^[3]

In July 2020, another blog said the following:

One event the current world situation [the global Covid-19 pandemic] has certainly put the crimpers on is us announcing our next major Total War title. As you can imagine it’s all a bit chaotic here at CA, so please bear with us.

Known features[edit | edit source]

• The game will be playable as a stand-alone title and feature its own self-contained main campaign.
• Those who own TWW1 , TWW2and TWW3 will be able to play a combined mega campaign currently called 'A Very Big Campaign'.
• CA has confirmed that they wish to implement all the main races of Warhammer Fantasy as playable factions by the end of the trilogy. This means that if the Chaos Daemons, Chaos Dwarfs and Ogre Kingdoms do not appear as playable factions in TWW2 , then they will appear in the third game.
• According to a Russian leak before the release of TWW1 , the third game would feature four factions: Khorne, Nurgle, Slaanesh and Tzeentch. This same leak listed Chaos Dwarfs and Ogre Kingdoms as DLC factions for TWW3, along with Tomb Kings and Skaven as DLC for TWW2. CA has since confirmed this leak but stated it is very outdated, Skaven appeared as a base race of TWW2 but Tomb Kings did appear as a DLC .
• During the announcement of pre-production July 2018 CA stated that the expansion would be 'Total Chaos ', this is expected to mean a heavy story focus on Chaos . This could possibly mean the Russian Leak correctly guessed that TWW3 would feature four independent chaos factions (featured in a 'great game' style campaign ) or simply the games stand-alone campaign will be primarily focussed on the Chaos invasion .
• The game will be released in 2021. Since 2015, CA has made yearly major Total War releases. CA has confirmed that Totlal War Warhammer 3 is their next major Total War release, thus it must be realeased in 2021 to continue the yearly release 'tradition'.

What different versions of Total War: WARHAMMER are there?

Total War: WARHAMMER will be available in the standard edition, Limited Edition and the extremely rare High King Edition. In addition, February 2017 will see the release of the Old World Edition.

OLD WORLD EDITION FAQ

In February 2017 we will be releasing a new edition of Total War: WARHAMMER with selected high street retailers. The big news is that it comes with a new playable race – Bretonnia. Why should you care if you already own Total War: WARHAMMER? Because you can download the Bretonnia Race Pack for free then too!

A contrast of lowly peasant masses and proud knightly orders, the feudal kingdom of Bretonnia features a host of powerful units and is lead into battle by a choice of three playable Legendary Lords; King Louen Leoncoeur, Alberic of Bordeleaux and the Fay Enchantress. More details about this iconic Warhammer Fantasy Battles Race will be revealed in the new year.

We’ve answered some of the most likely questions below.

What’s in the Total War: WARHAMMER – Old World Edition?It is the original game, plus the Bretonnia Race Pack and an exclusive novella, ‘The Prince of Altdorf’ by Total War Writer Andy Hall.

Does it come with all the DLC? Is it a GoTY or Gold version?No, it’s the original game and the Bretonnia Race Pack, and all the free-LC we’ve released to date of course. There are no plans to release a Gold or GoTY version of the game currently.

Why are you releasing this Edition?It’s a great opportunity to mark the inclusion of a great and iconic Warhammer Fantasy Battles race, and a great point for anyone who hasn’t dived into the Total War: WARHAMMER game yet to get on board.

What will existing players get?If you already own Total War: WARHAMMER, your game will be updated, and you will see the Bretonnia Race Pack available for free download in the Steam store. However, ‘The Prince of Altdorf’ novella is only available with physical copies of the game.

You said Bretonnia was coming this year, why is it delayed till February?As we mentioned at the time, our free content plan is subject to change, and we took the opportunity of repackaging the game to add in more content for Bretonnia, with additional units and a third Legendary Lord for example.

Is anymore DLC coming for Total War: WARHAMMER?Yes, our next major DLC expansion, and the next Free-LC is due before Christmas. It is growing now, there will be more news soon.

What are the differences between these editions?

Chaos Warrior DLC for Total War: WARHAMMER, Now Free Week One

We’d like to announce that the Chaos Warriors Race pack will now be offered free to players who purchase Total War: WARHAMMER in the first week on sale, as well as if you pre-order.

By extending the free period deadline by a week past launch, we can make sure more people who don’t feel like pre-ordering don’t miss out.

But at the same time we still get to reward early adopters, who’s support is so valuable to us.

Retailers who are currently supporting the pre-order will continue offering the DLC for free into the first week, with the free period coming to an end at 18:00 BST on the 31st May.

What’s a ‘participating retailer’?Any retailer that is already offering the Chaos Warriors Race Pack as a Pre-order will also be making it available for free to people who buy the game during the first week on sale. You should always check with your preferred retailer to make sure though.

Does this affect the contents of the Collector’s Edition?No, the Chaos Warriors will still be included in that Edition.

When will the free Chaos Warrior Race Pack offer end?At 18:00 BST on the 31st May 2016.

Has the release date for the game changed?No, the game will still release on the 24th May 2016.

Will reviews still come out before launch?Yes, absolutely, we will be able to tell you when soon.

Will there be preloading for the title on Steam?Yes there will, we will be able to announce when shortly.

Alongside the extremely rare High King Edition, a Limited Edition will also be available at select retailers. This version includes the metal case and the Insider Guide detailed above in the High King Edition.
