The Sheriff is responsible for the operation of the Delta County Detention Facility (Jail). The Detention Facility's annual budget is over $1.5 million. This includes: salaries of 18 Detention Deputies, three Court Security Deputies, four Work Release Deputies, three culinary staff, medical services, food, and operating cost for two facilities.The MissionIt is our mission as professional Detention Deputies to provide a safe, secure, humane facility for inmates, detention deputies and the community The dedicated Delta County Detention Deputies are entrusted with the care and safekeeping of all detainees waiting the outcome of their cases or those finishing their sentences. The Delta Detention Facility was completed in 1986 and the off-site Work Release Facility in 2004. The Detention Facility has the ability to hold 73 male and female detainees and the Work Release Facility 25 male sentenced work release detainees. The Detention Facility was originally designed to hold 44 inmates, through creative modifications and moving work release inmates to a separate facility, we have been able to make additional beds available in the Detention Facility. | |
The Work Release Facility was opened in 2004. This program allows sentenced inmates, who have been determined not to be a threat to the community, the opportunity to leave the facility for work. Inmates pay $20 a day for this privilege. The Work Release Facility generated $71,868.00 in fees in 2015. The average daily population in the Detention Facility for 2015 was approximately 49 inmates, and 12 inmates at the Work Release Facility. The average length of stay for an individual in 2015 was approximately 8 days. Our culinary staff served 48,715 meals in 2015 at a cost of $1.90 per meal. The surveillance camera system was recently modified for real time recording 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Telephone systems are recorded and monitored as needed, and in 2015 the control room was upgraded with modern communication equipment and work stations. TAC enables the Department to transport detainees to and from our facility at a lower cost to the taxpayers, rather than having to do all our own transports. This program has been very beneficial in promoting team work with departments across Colorado. The TAC program, North-West Transport program, and the cooperative efforts of transport teams on the Western Slope have saved thousands of dollars. Visiting Hours• Female detainees: Tuesdays and Saturdays, 10:00 am to 11:00 am • Male detainees: Tuesdays and Saturdays, 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm Special visits at other times must be approved in advance by a Sergeant or the Detention Administrator. Attorney and clergy visits are approved for any time with appropriate identification. Bible studies, AA and Mental Health groups are held regularly as part of the self-help courses offered. Detainees may receive money that can be used to pay their co-pay for medical treatment, booking and bonding fees, and commissary items. FingerprintingFingerprinting is available, with possible delays, during the following hours: Mon., Wed.-Fri., Sun.: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. No fingerprinting on Tuesdays and Saturdays due to inmate visitation.
